Loku
In the beginning, Chalo Loku was purposely named simply as Loku because the festival is known by different names in different villages, namely Ronglo, Chalo and Ronghuan. However, in later years, the prefix "Chalo" was added. Consequently, people who celebrated the festival under the name Ronglo and Ronghuan, accepted the change with reservation. Chalo Loku is a combination of two words: "Chha" / "Chhalo", which means paddy, and "Loku". Further, the word Loku has been derived from two words: "Lofe", which means to drive out; and "Kuh", which means season. Altogether, Chalo Loku is a celebration of harvesting paddy and driving out the old season (summer) and welcoming the new one (winter).
